Pre-Owned Condition Guide

At The Luxury Savvy, every pre-owned luxury piece is carefully assessed before it is listed for sale or accepted for resale. Our condition grading gives buyers and sellers a clear, honest picture of each item's state — so there are no surprises.

Luxury bags are made to be worn and enjoyed. A pre-owned piece is not expected to be unused, and normal signs of wear are entirely within the nature of the market. What matters is accurate, transparent grading.

Our Condition Grades

Grade Description
Pristine / Unworn The item shows no signs of use whatsoever. It may be unused with all original tags, packaging and accessories present, or simply in flawless condition. These pieces are exceptionally rare on the secondary market.
Excellent The item has been used very little and shows minimal signs of wear. Any marks are so minor they are barely perceptible. All hardware, stitching, leather and lining are in excellent condition. May or may not include original packaging.
Very Good The item shows light, normal signs of use consistent with careful ownership. There may be minor surface marks, light wear to base corners, or slight softening of the leather. Hardware remains bright and stitching is intact. A well-maintained piece that presents beautifully.
Good The item shows moderate signs of use appropriate to its age. There may be more visible corner wear, minor scuffs, light fading, or marks to the lining or hardware. The piece is fully functional and honest in its presentation. Priced to reflect its condition.
Fair The item shows notable signs of use or age. There may be significant corner wear, visible marks, hardware tarnishing, or lining wear. Suitable for collectors, restoration projects or buyers seeking a well-loved piece at a lower price point.


What We Assess

  • Exterior leather or material — surface condition, colour consistency, any marks or scuffs
  • Base and corners — one of the first areas to show wear on any handbag
  • Hardware — brightness, plating integrity, any tarnishing or scratches
  • Stitching — checked for fraying, loosening or repairs
  • Interior lining — staining, marks, odour or structural issues
  • Closures and straps — zips, turn-locks, clasps and strap condition
  • Inclusions — any original box, dust bag, receipt, cards, straps, locks or keys present

A Note on Inclusions

Original packaging and accessories can support a piece's resale value, but their absence does not prevent a handbag from being sold. We will always note clearly which inclusions are present and price accordingly.

Condition and Pricing

Condition is one of several factors that influence a piece's resale price. Brand, model, colour, hardware, size and current market demand all play a role. Two bags in the same condition can have very different resale values depending on their desirability within the market.

At The Luxury Savvy, we price pieces based on a thorough assessment of all these factors — not simply a fixed percentage of retail price.
